The Jordaan. A neighborhood where tourists sometimes mistake neglected maintenance for authentic charm, and where every new hole dug in the ground is virtually guaranteed to result in a Ziggo cable break.

When the 'Making Marnixstraat and Westerkade Sustainable' project got underway, Mohamed (Nijhuis) was the linchpin between residents, contractors, and Welna. Thanks to the short lines of communication, we were able to act quickly and limit lead times. We have since refurbished and furnished about fifteen temporary accommodation units.

A few project characteristics: virtually none of the installed modems went online immediately, meaning a Ziggo technician had to be called in regularly. The most critical residents were invariably invited by Mohamed for a good cup of coffee and a chat at the long table; a formula that worked remarkably often. One resident, who presumably did not like coffee, unfortunately caused a significant incident that necessitated a temporary construction stop.

More than a year later, the project is nearing completion and all backlogs have been caught up. The 280th home will soon be made sustainable. A great achievement by Eigen Haard, Nijhuis, Welna, and especially Mohamed.
